Any Healthy Not Gonna Kill Ya Sweets Out There?

I think that my mother subliminally planted a love for desserts and sweets into my brain. When I was a teenager I lost a bunch of weight by becoming more active and being out with my friends instead of staying home and noshing all day. My mom noticed my weight loss of course and sternly told me that I shouldn't give up eating sweets and that I would be fine if I just ate different sweets each day instead of the same ones! At that time my mom received weekly alimony checks from my father and when the mail came she promptly went around the corner to the bakery and stocked up on pastries, danishes and cookies. (I have mentioned before that my mom had some mental issues, she passed away in 1998)
I know that all things in moderation are fine, but as I am getting older and my metabolism is slowing down I can't help but think that my "need for sweet" is part of what is keeping some extra baggage on my body if you know what I mean!
I have been trying to use my exercise bike 5 times and week and just started doing "Walk Away The Pounds" aerobics again last night. And, I love healthier foods, veggies, grilled meats, salads, fruit, whole grains, etc.
I have been making fruit smoothies lately as an alternative to ice cream and I make sure to measure what I'm drinking, using skim milk and TRUVIA instead of sugar, but I need to have something that doesn't require a small appliance to make!
So, if anyone has any recipes for healthy cookies, muffins or anything, please comment with your ideas! I need, I need, I want, I want!!

  1. I hope you find some healthy cookie or muffin recipes.

My sister always says she has to have something sweet after eating her main meal!!!! - even if it's sweets. Trouble is she doesn't just have sweets after her main meal, she buys sweets with the groceries and eats them just about every day.

She goes to Slimming World and did get down to her target weight at one point. Then because you get fined or you have to pay or something like that if you go out of your target by a certain amount, she still goes but never gets weighed!!!! She wastes petrol getting there and back for no other reason than to weigh others! and have a natter!!! she doesn't even stick to their recipes when she cooks these days. She started to cook Slimming World chips, which quite honestly I found awful, and threw her chip pan away. Then when I had my new induction cooker and my chip pan could not be used on it she had that off me and has started cooking real chips again.

Her husband has tried to tell her about wasting petrol but she still does it, then she will moan and wonder where all the petrol went!!!!

    I despair.

  2. thanks for your comment Jordiegirl! I used to go to a diet group in the 80's, and watched weight loss videos in the 90's and realize that I just want to make lifestyle changes that I can stick with for the rest of my life without having to depend on a group to peer pressure me into following the rules! Instead of developing new healthy habits, I just tried to not be embarrassed at weigh ins! I also knew a lady in the 80"s weight loss group who just acted like it was a counseling session just for her! In the 90's my friend Nancy fell asleep during Weigh Down Workshop videos and I wish I had! The premise of that group was that it was SIN to take one bite past full! RIDICULOUS!

  3. I have a magazine called "Healthy Cooking" so I checked to see if they had anything that looked good and I came up with this recipe. It is called 'quick chocolate snack cake'

1/3 cup prune baby food or unsweetened applesauce
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup 'Splenda' sugar blend
    1/2 cup egg substitute
    1/2 cup water
    1/3 cup canola oil
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 cup baking cocoa
    2/3 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
In a large bowl, beat the baby food, sugar, sugar blend, egg substitute, water, oil, and vanilla until well blended. Combine cocoa, flours, baking soda and salt; gradually beat itno prune mixture until blended. Transfer to a 13x9 baking dish coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Sprinkle with chips and cool on a wire rack.
This is supposed to be 18 servings and the nutritional values are:
    170 calories, 6 g fat(1g sat fat), 0 chol, 82 mg sodium, 29 g carb, 1 g fiber, 2 g protein.

I haven't tried it, but if you do, let me know how it comes out.
